This new DIY “love my tribe” wooden home, is ideal for our newest Corona rule: “stay at home” from Maggy De Block. Plenty of time to spend with my shiba’s and that’s something I like the most. Dogs have always been a part of my life although I can’t really say I owned a dog when I was a kid.
But my aunt had dogs and other aunts had plenty of other animals to play with as well. My mum didn’t want me to have a dog when I was younger, because she had to put her own dog done when she was sick. She never really recovered from that experience. Every since she said I should get my own dog once I was older, I couldn’t wait for it.
Now I have two beautiful shiba’s walking in my home and they are the inspiration for my next project: “Love my tribe”.
What do you need?
- Sand the wooden house before bringing your first layer of paint. (I’ve chosen for a white acrylic paint (remember the grey house I own) and I’ve started with a paint brush but I don’t really like clean layers, so I took an old cloth to dep into the wet areas, getting some contrast into it)
- Give it some time to dry. Since I wasn’t in a hurry, I left it a day to dry before getting started with step 3.
- Place the stencil on your painted wooden home. You can opt for paint tape to keep the stencil in one place. Yet I didn’t did that this time, because I wanted to use my black Posca paint pen for this one. Trying out something new.
- Let it dry before placing it into your home.
Love my tribe result?
This “love my tribe” wooden home is done. What do you think?
This stencil was a Mylar stencil, which means you can wash it off and start again. Yet I’m not really a fan of this type of stencil as the bleeding is definately a possibility if you don’t do it right. I’ve noticed you can buy non-perminately glue to keep it into place as well but I don’t really like to work with glue that much.
So nowaday, I’ve been working more with vinyl, which is a one time only sheet. Not good for the environment but I’ve noticed other types to use as well, that can be reusable. Before buying those, I want to get to know more of my latest item I’ve bought: my Cricut machine. So I’m into the designs fase and when my shop is getting filled, I’ll probably transfer to the reusable ones.
Basically, stenciling is a great thing to do when you need to stay home from your gouvernement. It’s not that expensive and I guess you have something in your home that could be upgraded. Let’s say glasses, a wooden sign, a door, or something else.
Go and be creative!
